Alva Anderson plays, sings and writes music.
She considers it all ‘food’ for her soul and believes that others will be nourished as well.
In addition to playing viola, Alva is dedicated to sharing her voice. She sings jazz, blues and folk songs from around the world. Included in her repertoire are songs in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and the South African ‘Click’ language.
Alva has toured cities in Europe twice with the Allegro Chamber Ensemble. She has played in orchestras accompanying Carmen MacRea, and Dizzy Gillespie.
As a music teacher (instrumental and vocal) in the New York City public schools, she as written and arranged music to advance her students. In fact many of her students have become music professionals as well as educators.
